LTC Michael Cann

LTC Cann joined the Rutgers University Scarlet Knight Battalion on 1 August 2023. He commissioned from Lehigh University in 2005 as an Engineer Officer.  He served in the 82ND Airborne Division as a Sapper Platoon where conducted a 15 month no-notice deployment with 1-504TH Parachute Infantry Regiment in support of the Operation IRAQI FREEDOM “Surge” into Baghdad.  He then switched branches to Civil Affairs and was aligned to INDOPACOM.  As a CA Officer, LTC Cann spent the majority of his time in the 97TH Civil Affairs Battalion (Special Operations)(Airborne) in key developmental positions such as Team Leader, Company Commander, and Executive Officer.  Deployments while assigned to the 97th include three tours supporting Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines and two tours supporting Special Operations Command Pacific.  Other broadening assignments include an Interagency Fellowship at the Department of State’s Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization, G9 Military Plans Officer at NATO’s Allied Land Command in Izmir, Turkey, and most recently as a Planner in the C9 Civil Military Operations Directorate of the Combined Forces Command – Korea.

LTC Cann holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and a M.S. in Engineering Management from Missouri Science and Technology. He is a native of Edgewater Park, NJ and is married to Jessica Sutton of Fairfax, VA and has three daughters, Aurora (3), Chloe (2), and Lillian (1).
